2021 Kaushal Family Awards in Genetics

The Department of Genetics is pleased to recognize Kamen Simeonov (MD/PhD candidate in Chris Lengner’s lab) and Tingfang Chen (postdoctoral fellow in Doug Epstein’s lab) as the recipients of the 2021 Kaushal Family Awards in Genetics, which recognizes excellence in genetic research through publication by a graduate student and postdoctoral fellow. Kamen’s use of a CRISPR-Cas9 based single-cell lineage tracing approach to study metastatic tumor heterogeneity and Tingfang’s discovery of a new genetic cause of hearing loss are exemplary for their use of genetic and genomic innovations to address fundamental questions of biomedical importance. An award ceremony with presentations by the recipients will be scheduled in the Fall.
