In this study, the authors identify Foxl1 as a key regulator of intestinal villification, demonstrating that it drives epithelial patterning through activation of PDGFRα signaling and BMP pathways. These findings provide new mechanistic insight into mesenchymal–epithelial crosstalk during intestinal development and tissue organization, with implications for regenerative biology and gastrointestinal disease.
