Protocol Approval
It is an institutional requirement that all investigators obtain and document current approval of their animal research protocols from both the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) before utilizing the services of the Genetically Engineered Mouse Core.
Scheduling
Penn Investigators should submit an online service request using the following link (PennKey required): GEMC Service Request Form
Please contact Kathleen Moosbrugger to discuss project details and scheduling for non-Penn affiliated investigators.
It is the policy of the Core that no injection date will be assigned until the service request has been completed Online and the required documents have been provided. The assigned injection date will be coordinated with the investigator.
Confidentiality
All information provided by the investigator regarding their research project is treated with the utmost confidentiality. No subject-related materials will be disclosed or shared without written consent from the principal investigator.
Support Letter
For investigators preparing grant proposals, the Core can provide a letter of support confirming our readiness to generate genome-edited mice for your project.
Acknowledgments
We kindly request that any services provided by the Genetically Engineered Mouse Core (RRID:SCR_022388) be acknowledged in all publications resulting from their use. Additionally, the appropriate P30 funding source should be cited—for example, the Diabetes Research Center, the Center for Molecular Studies in Digestive and Liver Disease, or the Abramson Cancer Center.
Model Organism Sharing Policy
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) supported investigators are expected to share unique mouse models and related resources according to the NIH Model Organism Sharing Policy. Mouse models should be distributed freely or deposited in a repository, such as Jackson_Labs to make them available to the broader research community. It the responsibility of the principal investigator to comply with this policy.
